Cocktail Lounges in New Orleans
Recently, Alice and I partook in a small Southern US road trip. A friend of ours was having a wedding in Macon, GA and as we’d never done much Southern traveling, we decided to rent a car, start in New Orleans and cruise to Macon. Naturally, we couldn’t not try new bars and check out the cocktail scene. Here are a few places that we can recommend for quality craft cocktails in New Orleans.
Classic Eggnog
I make not secret about it: I love Eggnog. Even as a kid, I enjoyed the weird stuff that came in a carton from the grocery store (which, let’s be honest with ourselves, isn’t Eggnog, at least not Classic Eggnog). Heck, in college when I worked at McDonald’s, I helped myself to a fair few Eggnog Shakes. However, I had a revelation when I had true, authentic, Classic Eggnog (with bourbon!). If you haven’t tried it — oh, for me, for yourself, for the children! — give it a try.
Glogg
It’s cold. (Unless you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, then it’s warm. In that case, drink a Mai Tai and enjoy the weather for me.) Heck, even here it’s been raining like crazy for the last few days, making it both cold and damp. In harrowing times like this, there’s only one thing to drink: Glogg.
Brandy Alexander
Here’s the thing: I love chocolate milkshakes. Near as I can figure, sometimes there’s just nothing finer you can have. When it comes to something with a little kick though, I’m just never one who’s been impressed about booze in my shake. It’s not that I’m not willing to try, it’s that the execution always leaves a little something missing. However, a drink that hints of a shake. Oh yes, that’s very nice indeed. Around these parts, we call just such a drink the Brandy Alexander.
Thanksgiving Cocktails
Thanksgiving is an awesome holiday. You get to celebrate the Pilgrims, the Native Americans and their first festive meal by eating and drinking with friends and family. As Garfield said, “It’s the holiday when we celebrate turkey and cranberries by trying to eat all of them.” However, you don’t just have the food to think about, but also the drinks to consider. Here’s a list of some of our favorite cocktails that we’ve seen this year to help get Thanksgiving celebrations going.
Black Forest Martini
Fun fact: I love chocolate. Alright, well, that’s not really a secret or hidden gem. I mean, just look at all of the chocolate we’ve been doing lately (the Crème de Cacao and Extreme Chocolate Martini). It’s the holidays though, chocolate is an appropriate way to celebrate. Here’s a little more insight for you: I love a good Black Forest Cake. Heck, I request one almost every year for my birthday. That’s why I knew I had to come up with a proper, quality drink in its honor. Oh yes. Hello Black Forest Martini, you’re my new favorite.

Extreme Chocolate Martini
Confession: I’m a chocoholic. It’s true. We all have skeletons in our closet and this one is mine. Seriously, any given week there is somewhere around three or four pounds of different varieties of chocolate in my house. Ranging in percentage to producer to country, I can’t get enough of the stuff. Also, being a child of the 80s, I love fantastic adjectives for things (see: radical). When you combine these two personality — let’s call them quirks — and my love of creating things from scratch to appeal to my particularly sensibilities, it’s no shock when you get a drink like the Extreme Chocolate Martini!

Since the holidays finally here (Halloween kicks them off), it’s time to think about parties, group events and ways to make those more bearable. Now, I’m not saying hosting people at your house isn’t awesome, or group events aren’t fun — they’re some of the things I love the most about the holidays — I’m just saying it’s good to have some social lubrication.
