Twelve Five Rye Launch
Twelve Five Rye invited us to a launch party on the USS Iowa and who were we to say no? That’d be unconstitutional, especially for the launch of a new rye!
At the event, we sampled their new rye, tried quite a few classic (and riffs on classic) cocktails and even sampled some surprisingly tasty barbecue. We enjoyed all of that with the spectacular backdrop of the USS Iowa. It was a tough job, but someone had to do it.
I can tell you this: they really do know how to make their guests feel special. Good libations, good food, pleasant conversations: check, check and check.
One of the most refreshing cocktails of the afternoon was the Sazerac. Which, thanks to its origins in New Orleans, isn’t surprising. As it was a warm day on the ship (boats are smaller, FYI), and the humidity was kicking up a touch, that beautiful combination of rye, sugar, bitters and a hint of absinthe really hit the spot.
Being the incorrigible taster that I am, I even procured myself a sample of Twelve Five Rye straight and on the rocks. I can tell you, if you’re looking for some serious small batch, handcrafted rye, make sure to keep an eye out for these guys.
As FDR said when getting rid of prohibition, “What America needs now is a drink.” If that drink is a rye, Twelve Five Rye should be on your shortlist.
