Feel This Cocktail
You deserve a celebration. I’m not talking birthdays, graduations, kids or anything like that. Those are all obvious things to celebrate. Nah, what I’m talking about is, “Hey, it’s Friday, let’s celebrate!” Or, “Hot diggity, we hit three green lights on the way home, let’s break out the good stuff!” I promise that the world can be a harsh enough place if you let it. It’s your job to celebrate the little things. To make a point to have some fun, toss out your worries and celebrate the every day. In honor of that, make a Feel This Cocktail for yourself!
Godfather Cocktail
When I was going to bartending school (seemed like a good idea at the time), I liked the different drinks that were new to me. As I was in college, I was familiar with the standards, your Old Fashioneds, your Mai Tais, your Margaritas, those were old hat. What intrigued me were the new-fangled (only new to me, as they were all classics) drinks. One of my favorites? Oh, that’s easy. See, my final drink of the night (when not a Whisky Sour) used to always be whatever amaretto booze you have on the rocks. Imagine my delight when there was a cocktail with that plus Scotch. Oh yes. Allow me to reintroduce you to the Godfather.
El Diablo’s Circus
Dios mio! That’s right, that’s my mean Spanish skills that helped Alice and me so famously when we visited Peru. Contrary to opening with an anecdote about Peru, this isn’t a pisco cocktail. That’s just what you’d expect us to do. This is, in fact, a cocktail about tequila. However, the name takes us down on a South American journey. A journey of intrigue, of mystery, of spice! This is El Diablo’s Circus!
Rum Sidecar
I’ve been enjoying all of the fruit based cocktails we’ve been doing lately. It’s summer and you gotta do what’s in season, right? I know that’s what we usually try to do. However, I do get to a point where I don’t want to go to the farmer’s market to get my cocktail fixings, but I still want something pleasant and not too heavy. I mean, it is hot out, so something with some citrus kick, with some fun, with joy, with some pirate action, but still classic flavors is in order. An upgraded Sidecar, but with a Venezuelan kick — let’s have a Rum Sidecar!
Uptown Bloody Mary
When it’s brunch, there are always your gold standards when it comes to booze. You have your Mimosas (hold the OJ for mine, thanks) and your Bloody Marys. How about when it’s time to expand our horizons though? You want something like your traditional Mary, but a little fancy, a little uptown, something with a bit more funky flair. You, my friend, are in luck, that’s why we’re here to help you! Introducing the Uptown Bloody Mary!
Adonis
Every once in a while, you need a classically classical drink. I’m not talking some bathtub gin concoction here — I mean an actual, proper cocktail from the days when cocktails were in their infancy and people were just learning about mixing together spirits. Sure, it was a less sophisticated and slightly rougher time, but never say I’ve let the truth get in the way of a good story. When you’re reaching for a classic, reach for something a little different, something a little interesting, something that will add a little pep in your step, reach for an Adonis.
Lemon Ouzon Spritz
The other day, while watching “Hercules in New York,” I — no, I’ll admit it, I wasn’t. I just wanted to start with a “Hercules in New York” reference. If you haven’t seen it, it’s one of Arnold’s best worst performances ever — just ignore that whole Arnold Strong thing. Anyway, thinking about that got me thinking about Greek got me thinking about ouzo. Which is a roundabout way of saying…nope, no ouzo cocktail! However, we do have an Ouzon soda cocktail! Introducing the Lemon Ouzon Spritz.
Peach Lime Rickey
Sometimes, you just don’t want to overthink things too much. Is it warm out? If yes, you need something to cool off. Do you like limeade? It’s like lemonade, but with limes, so naturally. How about peaches? Well if it’s summer, of course. Then yes, this is the drink for you. When it’s warm and you need something awesome, because it’s awesome. Oh yes, it’s the Peach Lime Rickey.
Boozy Toasted Almond Popsicles
I think we’ve all been there. It’s hot out and you want a popsicle, but you want a cocktail too. Sure, you can have a popsicle and a cocktail, anyone can do that. What if there was a way to combine the two? What if there was some magical, voodoo witchcraft that enabled you to combine both booze and frozen treat? Well, look no further my wild and crazy friends, introducing Boozy Toasted Almond Popsicles.
Jaws’ Breakfast
It’s that magical time of year again, Shark Week! I look forward to it every year and Alice has grudgingly learned to appreciate its silly amusement for me. Last year, we did our first Shark Week cocktail, the Blue Hawaiian Shark Attack. Keeping up with that theme, this year we debut Jaws’ Breakfast!
