Johnny Appleseed
Fall, autumn — whatever you want to call it — is my favorite season. The leaves change (well, not specifically where I am, but I can imagine it), the weather cools off and it’s apple picking season! If you’ve never been apple picking, then you’re not alone. It’s a great fall idea though right? With that in mind: the Johnny Appleseed!
Barbados Punch
September is an awesome month for many reasons, but one of the biggest: September 19 is International Talk like a Pirate Day! Fun fact, since I was a kid, I always wanted to be a pirate (that, and a Viking — having a Danish mother will do that to you). Enjoy a Barbados Punch in honor of pirates! Yarr!
Old Fashioned
The Old Fashioned, is there any more satisfying drink at the end of the day? Well, yeah, sure there probably is — but let’s ignore that and pretend there isn’t. Some bourbon, a touch of sugar, a hint of bitters, put them all together and they’ll help you forget your troubles.
Boxcar
You want a classic cocktail, but you’re tired of the same old stuff. This, I totally understand. You want something a little different, a little fun, a little funky, but something that has withstood the test of time. Give the Boxcar a try. You’ll enjoy it. Unless you don’t enjoy gin, then you’re probably outta luck.
Honey Deuce
The US Open, the final grand slam of the year. Believe me, I love a good Aussie open, Wimbledon with all its history, the French and all of its French-ness, but the US Open, that’s a tennis tournament. Honestly, I love them all — but because it’s Open season again, let’s celebrate with a Honey Deuce! It’ll cool you off on a warm (basically) autumn evening.
Hemingway Daiquiri
Ah, the Hemingway Daiquiri, now that’s a tasty drink. You might hear of it as the El Floridita Daiquiri, but probably not. People tend to ignore the place that invented the drink and like to celebrate those who drank it. Which, as someone who got an English degree (worth it!), I’m good if it comes to Hemingway. Light, refreshing, great to imagine you’re drinking while on a safari (or just visiting Cuba), this is how you should drink a Daiquiri.
Blue Hawaiian Shark Attack
Shark Week! Yeah, I love it. I’ve loved it every summer for as far back as I can remember (it’s been going on for over 25 years now) and decided it was time to celebrate with a drink. Shark Week doesn’t deserve any drink, it needs the perfect one: classic, fun, slightly dramatic. Allow me to introduce you to: the Blue Hawaiian Shark Attack.
Aviation
I’m always looking to expand my gin drink repertoire because a man can’t survive on martinis alone – I’ve tried. It’s good to spread your wings and branch out to try something new. The Aviation is just such a drink. Classic. Light. Refreshing. Slightly floral. Just imagine yourself on a PanAm flight somewhere exotic from one of their Art Deco posters.
Aperol Spritz
It’s warm outside. You need a refreshing drink. Or maybe it’s brunch and you want something other than a Bloody Mary. Or you’re just looking for another use for champagne (or specifically Prosecco) — you’re in luck, the Aperol Sprtiz to the rescue!
