The Brain Hemorrhage
Happy Halloween! It’s finally upon us! For our final spooky-inspired drink, we knew that we couldn’t go with something everyone knows. It was time to kick it up a level or three on the Halloween factor and bring that pure, “What the heck is that?!” that only a good, freaky shot can provide. For an occasion like this: The Brain Hemorrhage!
A Selection of 2014 Fall Pumpkin Beers
Pumpkin beers. They start popping up in late September and survive through November (possibly into early December). In general, I’ve always found them a fun, weather-appropriate drink. Here are a few that we tried this weekend.
Corpse Reviver #2
Zombies. They’re totally a thing. By that, I mean they’re totally as much of a thing as you want them to be. Do they exist? In literature — 100%. In movies and TV — you bet. In real life — depends on the religion you ask. One thing that you need for a zombie though? A corpse. Then you need to reanimate that corpse and bingo bango you have a zombie. Or, if you’ve had too much to drink, you’ll need something to reanimate your corpse. Hello Corpse Reviver #2!
2014 Eagle Rare 17 Year Old
Eagle Rare 17 Year. Just thinking about it, I get a smile on my face. When you get an email from the CEO of BevMo informing you that you’re one of their best customers and that you have a chance to buy this exclusive bottle, you can’t ignore it. (Translation: we already spend plenty of money at BevMo, might as well spend a little more for something extra special).
Dark and Stormy
It’s that time of year again — the time when things go bump in the night and you’re never quite sure what that noise was. Was there a creek outside? Is that someone tapping on the window? Are those storm clouds rolling into town? Eek! The drink that you need to go with this atmosphere? The Dark and Stormy!
The Big Apple
Sometimes, you want to put a twist on a classic. Then there are times, you want to take inspiration from a classic. Call it an homage. That’s exactly what we have here. Start with a great drink: the Manhattan. Then take said drink and adjust it to make it apple centric and you have a whole new drinking experience: The Big Apple!
Pumpkin Pie Martini
Fall. For me, there isn’t any greater season. What’s the one flavor that starts popping up everywhere? Pumpkin. Not just pumpkin, but pumpkin spice. It’s in everything. Drinks, desserts, pastries — you know, some of the best stuff in life. With this grand pumpkin proliferation, I realized that that I have yet to find an exceptional Pumpkin Martini. Time to fix that: here’s the Pumpkin Pie Martini!
Twelve Five Rye Launch
Twelve Five Rye invited us to a launch party on the USS Iowa and who were we to say no? That’d be unconstitutional, especially for the launch of a new rye!
Homemade Creme de Cacao
Ah, chocolate, one of my truest vices. Seriously, if there’s a chocolate dessert on a menu, I’m morally obligated to get it. Same with any new chocolate bars I see. That’s why I knew I had to make some crème de cacao. Why buy it when you can make it almost as easily?
Hushed Caramel Apple
Shh, don’t tell anyone, this caramel apple has booze in it. In fact, it has more than just plain old every day booze in it, it has Hush Moonshine Spiced Apple in it. This will be our tasty little secret. Feel free to enjoy it while you’re enjoying some fall festivities.
