Radler

In honor of Germany throwing down at the World Cup and picking up their fourth championship, let’s drink German. As it’s hot outside, there’s only one drink for me: the Radler! You take some lemonade, you mix it with some beer and you enjoy. It’s almost too easy.

While researching cocktails for the Germans, the general consensus I found was that if it wasn’t beer, it wasn’t worth drinking. Who am I to argue with a culture who’s been making beer since the 11th century? With that in mind, I wanted to go with the oldest German beer I could find.

Enter The Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan. They’ve been making beer (officially) since 1040. By now, I’m relatively confident they know what they’re doing. I grabbed one of their hefe’s, as they always enjoy some citrus and are great on a summer day. Mix that one-to-one with lemonade and you’re golden!

A note on that lemonade — typical German lemonade is fizzy (think lemon lime soda), but the stuff I could find locally is a bit sweet for my taste. I went for a good store-bought lemonade. Though making your own wouldn’t go too far amiss to making this an extra special drink.

Here’s to you Germans!
