Hemingway Daiquiri
Ah, the Hemingway Daiquiri, now that’s a tasty drink. You might hear of it as the El Floridita Daiquiri, but probably not. People tend to ignore the place that invented the drink and like to celebrate those who drank it. Which, as someone who got an English degree (worth it!), I’m good if it comes to Hemingway. Light, refreshing, great to imagine you’re drinking while on a safari (or just visiting Cuba), this is how you should drink a Daiquiri.
Let’s ignore the mythology behind how the drink was actually invented. (Though, if you do want to read about it, Wayne Curtis has a great article behind the drink.) Along with ignoring that mythology, let’s pretend like some of Hemingway’s more unsavory personality traits didn’t really happen and just focus on the drink and the imagination itself.
Often, I like to think of Hemingway as one of the manlier men in history. Safaris. Adventures. War. Epic succinct writing style. These are all things (well, maybe not the war) that all guys should aspire to do in their lives. So, when it comes to drinking, if this manliest of men says a drink is good, you damn well better believe it’s good.
Just try not to have a dozen or two every night, then you might be in for some problems.
